Dr. J. Patrick O’Neal

Hi, I’m Dr. Patrick O’Neal and I’m excited to help you. A career in counseling wasn’t my original plan, but after an experience in a program called Journey to Freedom, I found my calling. I personally found freedom from dynamics keeping me in bondage and felt called to help others. I often use a blended approach to treatment fusing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy, and EMDR to challenge negative assumptions, find solutions from the past and to reprocess anxiety, trauma, and grief. Additionally, I utilize emotionally focused therapy to heal attachment wounds in couples counseling.

While I treat a multitude of areas, I enjoy working with those experiencing anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Many of these can come from trauma, co-dependencies, grief, infidelity, addictions, and more. I have proficiency walking alongside clients who have experienced all of these and would be honored to work with you too. Together, we will work to allow you to rebuild trust in yourself, reconnect with your values, give you a sense of meaning, and move through life with greater clarity, confidence, and peace.

In 2013 I earned my Masters degree from Denver Seminary in clinical/mental health and in 2024 I received my PhD from the University of the Cumberlands in Counselor Education and Supervision. I have a membership with the EMDR International Association as well as being an Advanced Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, with over ten years of work with addictions and trauma.

When I’m not working, I’m enjoying time with my wife, our four children and any one of our nine pets. Softball with our church has become a favorite activity as well as cheering for my children at gymnastics, dance, and football. I also enjoy sitting around the table with my wife and children as they conquer school at home each school year. Managing work and life is not only a professional skill set, but a personal need.
